A phone number is the fastest path to put an AVCodex voice agent in front of the people who need it. A field tech standing in a hotel ballroom with a dark projector can dial a number, describe what the room is doing, and get walked through the fix. An office manager can call a hotline that books a Logitech room refresh quote. A first-line help desk can hand off after-hours support to an AI that already knows the client's gear list.
Warning: Phone numbers require a Studio Pro plan or higher, and voice agents must be enabled on your AVCodex account.
- You purchase a phone number inside AVCodex.
- The number is automatically routed to your voice agent.
- Callers connect directly to your AI.
- The voice agent answers using your agent's system prompt, knowledge base, and tools.
No SIP trunk to commission, no webhook plumbing, no PBX integration. It just answers.
1. Open voice settings
Go to your agent's Build page and open the Voice card. Voice mode must be enabled first.
2. Select a number
Click Select Number to open the phone number search. Pick your country (US or Canada) and optionally filter by area code or city. A managed-services AV firm in Dallas might want a 214 area code so on-site clients see a local number.
3. Search and choose
Click Search Numbers to see available options. Select the number you want and click Save to provision it.
Your number is active immediately after purchase.
| Plan | Max phone numbers | Free allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Studio Pro | 3 | 3 included |
| Enterprise | Unlimited | 3 included |
The first 3 phone numbers per organization are included in your plan. Additional numbers beyond the free allowance are billed separately.
| Component | Cost |
|---|---|
| Phone number (monthly) | First 3 free, then ~$1.15/mo per additional number |
| Inbound call minutes | Billed as part of your LLM token usage |
Monthly phone number billing runs on the 1st of each month for the previous month's active numbers.
Once a number is assigned, calls are automatically routed to your voice agent with its full configuration:
- Voice selection. Stock voices, voice tiers, or cloned voices.
- Custom greeting. How the agent introduces itself ("Thanks for calling Acme AV support, this is Riley").
- System prompt. Full personality and instructions.
- Knowledge sources. Manufacturer spec sheets, AS-built documentation, room CAD, SOPs, and anything else you have loaded.
- Tools. Custom actions and integrations the agent can run during the call (open a ticket, query a CRM, look up a control system error code).
One number per agent#
Each agent can have one phone number. To change numbers, release the current one and purchase a new one. Released numbers return to the available pool.
| Use case | Example |
|---|---|
| AV help desk line | A field tech calls from the rack room and walks through Crestron error codes with the agent. |
| Service dispatch | Caller describes the issue, the agent triages, books a truck roll if needed. |
| 24/7 client hotline | Higher-ed AV teams field after-hours classroom calls without staffing a night shift. |
| RFP and quote intake | A prospect calls in, the agent qualifies the project (rooms, scope, timeline) and routes to sales. |
